Robo Racers: Understanding Control Systems in Robotics

At Lady Florence Convent School, young robotics students of Grade VI delve into the enthralling world of machine learning in Robotics. They were allotted the engaging project titled “Robo Racers.” The project motivated students to apply theoretical knowledge of robotics learning and technology to design robots that are capable of precise and stable motion. The participating students were excited to enter the practical realm of robotics learning.

The Robo Racers project really got our students interested in robotics. They learned to build mini-robots able to trace a given track, respond to sensor inputs, and maintain a state of constant motion using basic control algorithms. Students also got to learn practically the control systems that “brain” the robots. They perform constant monitoring, “deciding,” and “adjusting” to movements in real time. Besides reinforcing the understanding of machine learning, the project also developed critical problem-solving, collaboration, and creative skills. Students with a multidisciplinary approach saw the integration of mathematics, physics, and computer science logic to achieve the set target.

The enthusiasm of students and their understanding of robotics was best demonstrated by the sight of their robots “racing” with purpose. The school’s vision to seamlessly integrate STEM Education with creativity was clearly illustrated by the project, where young students were able to “think” like engineers and “innovators.”
