REDEFINING EDUCATION AT LFCS

At Lady Florence Convent School we have developed a robust educational model that combines conventional teaching learning methods with emphasis on modern pedagogical tools which can be delivered via teachers.

Our model, which we call “Light Thy Soul,” also aligns with the school motto, aims at combining the goal of the achievement of standardized learning outcomes through the learning process with enabling the pupils to discover themselves and their surroundings and thus making a positive impact in the communities they live in.

The model “Light Thy Soul” requires significant efforts from our facilitators at LFCS by adopting a joyful, Zen Den approach to pedagogy. Joyful Zen Den approach is a unique feature of our institution. Through this we ensure that learning remains at all-time be joyful, experiential, help students to stay mindful and inculcate gratitude towards every individual and everything involved in the teaching learning process. Student-centred learning methods are used that require students to work in groups to solve complex problems and manage projects on their own. Conceptual knowledge is imparted at school through activities that empower our students to apply what they have learned. For example, students learning Indian Parliament, such as Parliamentary elections and powers of the two Houses—and, to the extent feasible, gain exposure to practically participating in Parliamentary debates and contesting mock elections at school. In Economics, they practice routine market-like transactions by participating in entrepreneurial ventures and preparing school budgets for a specific school event in mock Parliamentary Sessions. Students also develop higher order skills as they work in a team to develop and execute science projects.

With the Zen Den approach to pedagogy, we also help students to be mindful of challenges and stay fearless when they come across adversities. The aim is to help our students not to fall prey to the rat race of unhealthy competition and pressure from society and always trying hard to live up to the expectations of others. Instead, every individual student at LFCS is trained to compete with oneself only. They are trained that they must raise their own bar of performance each day and strive to excel and achieve the higher goal every next day.

In our efforts to execute our model of Light Thy Soul Learning we will continue developing our instructional method and align it with our learning model and the motto of our institution- LIGHT THY SOUL.
